Introduction:
The MercyAscot Hospital is the largest and most experienced private surgical hospital in the country and the second largest cardiac facility after Auckland City Hospital (where Green Lane Hospital services are now based). The Mater (Mercy) Hospital and Health Services were established in 1900 by the Sisters of Mercy. Today, the 155-bed Mercy Ascot Auckland hospital is acknowledged as a healthcare leader and innovator, with more than 400 staff and 100 on-site consulting specialists.
The acute cardiology facility, Mercy Coronary Care Unit, is the first facility of its type in Auckland.
The Coronary Care Unit beds are fully monitored and structured to provide optimum care while maintaining comfort and privacy. The unit is staffed by highly experienced specialist nursing personnel. The onsite cardiology care is provided by the adult cardiology specialists associated with The Auckland Heart Group. These cardiologists are available on a roster 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Coronary Care Unit is available for care and assessment of haemodynamically stable patients with chest pain, arrhythmia and heart failure. If appropriate, patients can be rapidly investigated by onsite coronary angiography with a view to urgent coronary angioplasty or surgery.
The Coronary Care Unit is part of MercyAscot Hospital's comprehensive cardiac service, which includes a Cardiac Investigations Unit, an Intensive Care Unit, Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit and Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme to provide a continuum of care for patients.
MercyAscot Coronary Care Unit is located within Cardiac Services at Mercy Integrated Hospital. This is a unique setting in that we are able to provide a comprehensive integrated approach for patients requiring cardiac care and/or assessment. Patients may experience all or part of the service at any given time. For example you may be admitted to the Coronary Care Unit with unstable angina, then be transferred to the Cardiac Investigations Unit for investigations, and may then transfer to the Cardiothoracic Unit for cardiac surgery. You may enter or exit at any point along this continuum, depending on your needs.
The Coronary Care Unit admits suitable patients at any time and this can be done via your General Practitioner. Cardiology Consultants from Auckland Heart Group are available at all times to support the experienced Coronary Care nurses to ensure that your treatment and care is appropriate for your needs. This includes a comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation programme. The cardiac rehabilitation nurses will visit patients and their families while they are in hospital to assist them with their condition.
