Dr Tim Sutton

Tim Sutton trained at Bristol University in the UK, where he undertook an intercalated microbiology degree as part of his undergraduate career. He spent the first three years of his medical life initially at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, then Northampton General Hospital. Having arrived in New Zealand with his Kiwi wife he spent time in all three greater Auckland hospitals as a medical registrar, then trained in cardiology at Middlemore and Green Lane hospitals. On the way he gained his MRCP in 1996 then his FRACP in 2001. Dr Sutton then spent a year as a clinical research fellow at Middlemore and has been a consultant cardiologist there since December 2001.

He has experience in the management of a broad range of cardiological conditions and performance/ interpretation of echo – both transthoracic and stress – and CT coronary angiography. He has been a member of The Heart Group since 2004 and has been an integral part organising The Heart Group educational symposia since 2012. He has spent time on sabbatical at both the National Amyloid Centre, London, and the Brigham Hospital, Boston enhancing his interest in cardiac amyloidosis. Outside of work, until the recent past, he has played and coached hockey and is a member of the Covert Theatre.



Interests include General cardiology with a focus on assessment, investigation and management of heart failure, cardiac amyloidosis, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation and ischaemic heart disease.
